RIP to a legend. The musician and DJ Kavinsky, who produced some of the best synthwave around, has passed away at 50. I have a great deal of respect for him as an artist, and the world is a smaller place with his loss.

Some more impressions of the unicomp mini M: I don't have an old IBM model M to compare at the moment, but from memory, it feels like the switches on the unicomp have a slightly higher pitch in their click, and less deep sound, but still substantially better than MX style clickies that I've used like MX blues (which are kind of shit tbh). I'm gonna be trying out box royals soon, so we'll see how they compare in--

--terms of tactility. I'm not the biggest fan of the sound of the unicomp variant of the buckling spring as compared to topre or some of the nicer sounding MX switches I've tried, but the feel is pretty fantastic. I do wish that the actuation point was higher on the switch like it is on topre (which also has a more rounded tactility), but I can't deny just how satisfying the tactility of the mini M is.

I am feeling a decent bit of fatigue with the switch as compared to topre, and all the MX style switches I've tried. I am curious if box royals will be too tactile, since I've heard both good and bad things about the switch.

switching back to my HHKB, its very obvious that it is substantially less tactile, but the tactility is a bit more pleasing for me personally. That rounded feel is just very easy on the fingers, and helps me type for longer without difficulty. To say nothing of the sound, which is just perfect. I definitely don't think buckling spring is going to replace Topre for me, but I am gonna keep using the unicomp for a week
Got a unicomp mini model M keyboard for my birthday!!! Very excited to use it as my main keyboard for a bit to see how it compares to the HHKB, and see if it might have sufficient tactility to become my new daily driver! So far my first impressions are amazing, the tactility is truly explosive, and the sound is better than I expected, very on-par with the times I've been able to use OG model Ms

The build quality is also very good. Not a full metal body or anything, but its decently heavy, and the plastic doesn't feel cheap. Not to mention the keycaps are fantastic, very good printing on the caps, and the PBT feels great. Appearance-wise its absolutely gorgeous, the black chasis and white keycaps with gray special characters is really sleek. All told, I'm very satisfied so far!!

With the unacceptably high levels of malware that has snuck into the AUR, I'm honestly not sure if I can recommend Arch linux and its derivatives anymore. As it stands, the actual arch repos are absolutely limited compared to Debian and Fedora's, so anything Debian-based and Fedora-based are gonna have the packages you need, while Arch very often doesn't without the AUR. (cont) makes me feel like it just isn't worth it. Sure, you get so much more control of your system, but with the presence of malware in the AUR, I just can't recommend it. I think I'm gonna push some updates to my linux tier lists and remove arch from S-tier because of these issues, and how much arch relies on the AUR to fill in the gaps in software availability that the apt and dnf repos just have by default.

it really pains me to do that because I love arch, and have used it for years, but without the AUR, you just will run into issues with essential tools and programs not being available through pacman, and will need to rely on the AUR, and at this time the AUR is just not safe to use. If you presently use Arch, please check if you are compromised, and potentially reinstall your system and change passwords if you were

At long last, here's chapter 15 of Smaller Things. There's probably only a few more chapters before this novella I've been mulling over for years is finally done
After I finish, I'm gonna compile them all together into a single document that's been edited and is easier to read. It feels good to be this close to finishing something I started in community college. Crazy something so short in comparison to the thousands of pages I've put in personal novel projects not on this website has still consumed so much of my thoughts over the last 7 years of my life
