to this day i cannotfigure out why the flip my web site preview screen is literally just black and a rectangle and nothing else..... the mystery eludes me still

It's a cached screenshot of your website at one point. One way to fix this is to upload a preview-image.png to your root directory, if I'm not mistaken.
