Also, I've been reading Utopia by Thomas More (1516?), and very insightful to me (you might enjoy it with a good translation, unless you read latin :p). It keeps coming back to this idea: when basic human needs like shelter and land are converted into private assets for individual profit, income inequality and social fracture are the inevitable result.
